Monica's Teaching Philosophy

Music is a language beyond words. It pushes through cultural and language barriers. Monica is dedicated to help students build technique through proper physical movements that enable them to create colourful sounds. In addition to playing, her lessons incorporate theory right from the beginning to build the musical vocabulary and syntax. While the focus of Monica's teaching is classical piano, she teaches adaptable skills and supports students to explore popular music, jazz, and improvisation. Whether you are looking to build a solid classical repertoire collection, or playing for pleasure, Monica has a curated teaching plan for you to meet your needs and set you up for success to continue exploring music on your own. ​

Monica Xiao is a music educator and collaborative pianist. Monica holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Specialized in Music from York University. She has completed the Associate Diploma in Piano Performance and the Associate Diploma in Piano Pedagogy from the Royal Conservatory of Music. She is a certified RCM Teacher, Yamaha group classes instructor, and executive member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association Newmarket and Area Branch. Monica has successfully prepared students for RCM exams (elementary to advanced), music festivals and competitions, recitals, and community concerts.
